RE: Grocery coupons

DW uses grocerygame.com and has cut our grocery bill in 1/2. It seems a lot like we are going back to the way things used to be sensibly done. We stockpile when things are on sale, even bought a freezer to stockpile things in. She really makes a competition out of it as I always get text messages such as "158 for 70".

RE: DW would not do it! So I Will!

Now that I think about it, out toilet has swirling water too. Maybe we could do a poll on swirling water in toilets to keep us occupied this winter:)

Are you talking about Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning gels? Just so happens when I asked DW about them, she has some. Here's a link to their website. Scrubbing Bubbles

RE: 6 for the Road

I watched the first two episodes the first night it was on. Their website said that the next episodes would be on 11-5 at 10 and there was some other show on then. I went through TLC website and cannot find any further listings. Does anyone know when it is going to be on again?

RE: Hot Springs, NC ?

We have gone to Hot Springs this summer and last summer. We stayed at Hot Springs Campground across the road from the spa and we both love it. I have not driven the route you are asking about. Our first trip my friend insisted on taking 26 across Sam's Gap then through Marshall. The last hill before Hot Springs was pretty steep. We went back 25 to 107 through Greeneville which was much easier as the road follows the valley. Ironically that is the way the guy at the campground recommended. Here is a link to the campground. Hot Springs, NC. If you will send me your email in a PM, I will be glad to send you an email through snapfish that will allow you to see our pictures of Hot Springs from both years.

RE: Fixing flat

We had been out of town for the weekend, 240 miles round trip and had a blowout about a mile from our house. I got it home and used my lynx leveler blocks under one tire to get the other off the ground.

RE: How do they know...

I can't speak for your Dodge, but the "Maint Required" light in both of my Honda's are set to go yellow at 6000 miles and red at 7500 miles, which happens to be the recommended oil change interval. I have a friend with a Audi (too expensive for me) that gives you a percentage of your oil life remaining depending on the computer's perception of your driving habits. Bob Our Honda Fit that we just bought tells the percentage of oil life remaining.

RE: Anyone take their Grandkids with you

Deen, I asked my wife about the book and she said that there are examples of situations other than drug abuse including situations like yours. It really amazed me how many grandparents are raising grandchildren. According to the book about 30% to 35% are raising their grandchildren. It is one of those things that you really don't think about until it hits home. We felt very alone at first as your circle of friends usually have children close in age to your own and we felt like we didn't have things in common with them anymore. The important thing to remember is that you are not alone. We were interviewed by the local christian radio station about our support group. After the interview we were just sitting talking to the DJ and he told us that one of his neighbors in her late sixties was raising two great grandchildren on her own. In our situation, we still have a little hope that the parents will get their lives straightened out and regain custody. The chance of this happening is very slim, but we still pray every day that it will happen and if it doesn't, we will do what we have to insuring that the grandkids have a good life and are safe. They are both finally completing an outpatient rehab, he is working full time, and she is working part time. Oh well, I've rambled enough for this morning.

RE: Anyone take their Grandkids with you

We are sitting at Tybee Island with our two Grandkids that we have had custody of for the past 16 months due to their parent's drug abuse. I am sorry for your loss and can say that I truly admire you taking the grandkids as we know what you are going through. I can't help you on the home schooling as we are not at the point in our life that we can consider retiring and taking long trips during the school year. I am 42 and DW is 43. My son is the youngest of our four children and he graduated high school this past May and we were looking forward to empty nest syndrome. My how life can change. Our grandson is 4-1/2 so he will start school next fall and our granddaughter is 2-1/2 so we are taking advantage of no kids in school this fall. It is looking like we will have them permanently and for us it is not that big of a deal since they will be out of high school before we retire. We started a support group in our area called GAP (Grandparents as Parents) since we could not find anything else and you may want to check into something like this so you will be able to meet othere people in similar situations. Try a google search for "granparents raising grandchildren" and you can probably find some more information. If you would like to send me a PM, I would be glad to get more information from DW as she is the one that did the research and also found a very good book that helped us out. i think the name of the book was "Grandparents as Parents".

RE: Tybee here we come

Well we have been at Tybee for 5 days now and really fell in love with the place. We had dinner at Fannie's the other night and it was very good. We took the grandkids to the marine and science museum and it was ok. They really liked Oatland Island Wildlife Center that was recommended by a fellow camper. We are planning on Dinner at The Oyster Bar tomorrow or Friday night and seeing Fort Pulaski one of those days also. It is a little cooler than we had planned for, left firewood and fire pit in Tennesse, so that is the only thing we would change about our trip. We rode bikes down to the pier and back yesterday. I would say that we have found our vacation site at least for the next few years. Thanks for all the help and advice.

RE: Gas Panic!

We are heading to Tybee for a week Saturday so I got online to check diesel prices and availability since I will probably fuel up around Columbia SC. According to Flying J's website, diesel in Columbia is 3.82 which is .10 cheaper than I paid here last Wednesday. It seems like this was a regional thing based on how much the people in the area panicked. I hope they actually do something about the price gouging that went on around here. Saturday's paper had a picture on the front page of a BP station next to the university that had 5.49 on their signs for regular. They claimed it was a glitch and that is really not what they were selling it for:h.

Tybee here we come

We leave Saturday (9-20) for a week at Tybee Island. This will be our first trip there and looking for suggestions such as where is good to eat, what attractions are worthwhile. We will have our two grandchildren with us, ages 2yrs 10mos and 4 yrs 7mos. We will probably only eat out one night so would like a good place. I have looked at the dolphin tours and it looks like something they will enjoy. Planning on doing a lot of relaxing at the pool and beach, but would like to do a few things.

RE: How to attach a thermometer to record exterior temps

I have the wireless and just sit it in my BAL chocks on the curb side then the slide protects it from direct sunlight and it is easy to remember since I can't remove the chock without seeing it.
